Imminent Collapsed Kuyi Bridge: Patigi community seeks FG’s quick intervention.
Written by Abdulmumeen Uthman on January 7, 2019
The Kuyi bridge at 5 km from Patigi on the Patigi – Share Road in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State was built in 1973 (46 years ago) and now suffers from major structural failure due to the complete erosion of the base of the bridge’s Structural Wing Walls and Columns.
There has been structural displacement such that there is no more support on one side of the bridge.
With the condition of the bridge, it can no longer support the weight of heavy vehicles and may not survive another rainy season.
Meanwhile there have been several communal efforts by the community to shore up the bridge which will require the re-channelling of the river through the bridge.
At the time of the visit to the site by Hon Aliyu Bahago Ahman Pategi the bridge was in a state of near collapse.
Hon Pategi who commended community members for their gesture promised that he will use his position with those in authority to see that the bridge is reconstructed.
The community is therefore seeking for immediate FG intervention before the road is completely cut off.
Some of the road users spotted at the time of the visit lamented that if the road is cut off it will completely affect movement and their farming/commercial activities.
