The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) says Team Nigeria is participating in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour which began in Qatar on Tuesday.
Kehinde Lamidi, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of NVBF, said in Lagos that the Nigerian male team would join 36 other countries in the tournament holding from March 12 to March 15.
“Nigeria’s male beach volleyball team will be participating at the FIVB beach volleyball world tour holding in Qatar.
“Team Nigeria is the only team from Africa that will be joining other 36 countries in the main draw and 13 countries in the qualification draws in the four-day tournament.
“Team Nigeria made the Qatar male four star international beach volleyball tour through a wild card in preparation for Association of National Olympic Committees’s (ANOC) World Beach Games in San Diego, U.S. this year,” Lamindi said in a statement.
NVBF President, Musa Nimrod, expressed gratitude to the FIVB for facilitating Nigeria’s team’s participation in the tournament.
“I want to say a big thank you to FIVB board member, Engineer Habu Gumel for facilitating Nigeria’s participation.
“I also want to charge the team to make Nigeria and the continent proud by proving that they deserved their ranking in the continent,” Nimrod said.
Meanwhile the coach of the team, Francis Imoudu, has given assurance of the team’s good outing at the competition.
“Nigeria has never participated in an FIVB beach tournament, but we promise to make impact.
“This is the first time we are going to take part in the tournament and we are the only representatives of Africa.
“It’s a privilege for the boys to showcase the stuff they are made of,” Imoudu said.
