Security agents today surrounded the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin in anticipation of the Revolution Now protest scheduled to hold across the country.
With this development, sporting activities were halted this morning with the presence of heavily armed men of the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Our Staff Correspondent, Abdulrosheed Okiki who was at Stadium at about half past seven in the morning said many of the athletes who were in the stadium for trainings and competitions were stranded in and around the stadium.
Our Correspondent gathered that the Deputy Commissioner Police in charge of Operation, Abimbola Sokoya led the team to the Stadium.
Speaking in an interview, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said officers and men were drafted to the Stadium based on information that a purported Revolution rally organised by the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore in the 2019 general elections would take off from the place.
Okasanmi said the Police took the proactive measure in order to prevent breakdown of law and order.
