Kwara Dep Gov appointed as Polio eradication ambassador

The Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi has been signed as an ambassador for Polio eradication in the State.
With the signing and appointment, Mr Alabi is now the Head of the State Polio plus Committee responsible for the eradication of the virus.
The Field Coordinator for the South West, Nigeria National Polio plus Committee, Rotarian Gbenga Olayiwole who decorated the Deputy Governor with the honour said this is the third year that the Country have not recorded the outbreak of Polio.
Olayiwole pledged that the Committee and Rotary Club would continue to partner with the State government in the fight against Polio.
The State Representative of the Committee, Chief Rick Oladele said no cases had been reported in the last three years apart from the challenges recorded in some areas.
Responding, the State Deputy Governor, Mr Alabi commended the Committee and Rotary Club for their efforts at eradicating the virus in the Country.
Mr Alabi stated that the State government would not relent in meeting the health need of its people.
In another development, the Deputy Governor has urged Nigerians to always go for regular check up to avoid blindness and ensure a healthy life.
Mr Alabi made the call while receiving members of the State Chapter, Nigeria Ophthalmic Nurses Association led by its Chairman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Opawoye in his office.
The Deputy Governor said government would support the various professional bodies in the health sector to ensure effective health care delivery for the people.
Earlier the Chairman of the Association, Mrs Oluwatoyin Opawoye said the body had been playing its role in ensuring the prevention of avoidable blindness in the urban and rural areas.
Mrs Opawoye disclosed that the State would host the thirty third annual National Conference of the Association with the theme “Vision 2020: the right to sight, countdown to final lap” from the Ninth to the thirteenth of next month in Ilorin.
The Deputy Governor had earlier hosted members of Igbaja Pathfinders led by the President, Pharmacist Sodiq Toyin who are on a thank you visit..
Pharmacist Sodiq Toyin who highlighted some of the self help projects carried out by the body called for the upgrading of Igbaja Cottage Hospital to a General Hospital status to meet the health need of the people in the District.
