Powers And Duties Of The Corporation

Apart from the classical functions of a broadcast medium to inform, educate, entertain, the Edict establishing the Radio Kwara empowers it, among other:-

  1. to erect, maintain and operate radio transmitting and receiving stations
  2. To establish and maintain such divisions subsidiary departments, sections, branches and field offices thereof
  3. To install and operate wired radio distribution service
  4. To enter into arrangement with any person, body or authority for the purpose of obtaining licenses, rights, privileges and concession
  5. To produce, manufacture, purchase or otherwise acquire gramophone and other mechanical records and materials and apparatus for use in connection with records and to use them in connection with the broadcasting services
  6. Subject to the News Agency of Nigeria Decree, 1976, to provide for and to receive from other persons matter to be broadcast
  7. To organize, provide and subsidies educational activities and public entertainment for the purpose of broadcasting
  8. To collect news and information in any part of the world and in any manner that may be thought fit and subject to the News Agency of Nigeria Decree, 1976, subscribe to news agencies
  9. To acquire copyrights
  10. To publish printed matters that may be conducive to the performance of any or all its functions
  11. To do anything for the purpose of advancing the skill of persons employed in the broadcasting services, or the efficiency of the equipment used in the broadcasting services or the manner in which that equipment is operated, including the provision by others, of facilities for training, education and research
  12. To manufacture and assemble radio receiving sets
  13. To form or participate in the formation of a company limited by shares and incorporated in Nigeria under the Companies, Decree, 1968;
  14. To nominate persons (including any of its number) to be directors of any such company;
  15. To provide capital and other moneys for any such company out of its funds in accordance with the terms and conditions attached to the grant of these funds, and to hold shares in the capital of any such company; provided that the Memorandum of Association and the Articles of Association of any such company shall be subject to the approval of the Executive Council;
  16. To make arrangements and enter in agreements with any person for the exercise, performance or provision by that person as agent for the Corporation of any of the powers, services facilities which may be Exercise, performed or provided by Corporation.
