EU develops 3-yr strategic plan on routine immunisation in Kano

The European Union (EU) has developed a three-year strategic plan on routine immunisation in Kano State to ensure effective coverage of the state.

The plan is tagged ``Support for Routine Immunisation in Kano project''.

A quarterly newsletter of the EU, which was released in Kano said the project was aimed at monitoring and improving immunisation programmes in the state.

It would also strengthen primary healthcare systems and contribute to the attainment of the health component of the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs).

The document also set out strategies and performance targets, including resource requirements for revitalising routine immunisation services for the period of 2009 to 2011.

The strategy would work towards reducing childhood mortality arising from vaccine preventable diseases and contribute to polio eradication in Kano State.
