The Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Yomi Bolarinwa, has advised broadcasting stations to always give utmost consideration to national unity in their coverage of crises and elections.
He told newsmen that Broadcasting Stations had a major role to play in helping to harmonise all the attributes that promote the country's unity in diversity.
Mr. Bolarinwa explained that Nigeria's broadcast code recognises immediacy that enables broadcasting stations to bring information on issues of national concern and crisis to the audience.
He added that the code insisted that in the coverage of emergencies, broadcasters should observe basic professional tenets.
Mr. Bolarinwa urged broadcast stations to effectively discharge their core responsibilities of educating, informing and entertaining the public.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders in the industry to respect the code of conduct for broadcasting stations.
