The Federal Government says it is fast-tracking the development of the National Adaptation Plan of Action (NAPA) to combat the negative consequences of climate change.

The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey, stated this in Abuja while speaking to newsmen.

Mr. Odey said a proactive action was necessary because of scientific evidence which showed that Nigeria would suffer from climate induced drought, desertification and rise in sea level.

He said government was exploring areas of collaboration with development partners on both mitigation and adaptation projects.

The minister said Nigeria had a great window of opportunities to benefit from the World Bank Forest Investment Programme.
