Ekiti D/Gov commends NGF's peer review initiative

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sekiru Lawal, has commended the Nigeria Governors Forum's (NGF) peer review initiative.

The peer review programme was initiated by the thirty six state governors.

Alhaji Lawal made the commendation in Ado-Ekiti while receiving members of the peer review committee who are in the state to inspect its development projects.

He said the initiative would allow the governors to peer review themselves, to ensure healthy competition that would facilitate even development across the country.

Alhaji Lawal expressed optimism that the exercise would help to facilitate the delivery of democracy dividends and ensure good governance.

He urged the Forum secretariat to ensure that state governments came up with financial autonomy Bills and that states auditors' reports were vetted by state executives.

This, he explained, would ensure financial accountability as well as the institution of checks and balances in the states auditors' reports.

The Forum's Executive Director of Strategy, Alhaji Abudulateef Shittu, had earlier explained that the committee embarked on the exercise to identify unique best practices in the states.
