The Federal Government has been called upon to focus more attention on rural development to check rural urban drift in the Country.

A Community Leader in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Shehu Aremu, made the call while answering questions form our staff correspondent.

Alhaji Aremu, who deplored the living condition of the rural dwellers, said that if urgent action was not taken to correct the situation, the rural people might continue to live in perpetual poverty.

He was of the opinion that government should increase its effort in the provision of infrastructural facilities in the rural areas in the country, saying that a larger percentage of the country’s population lived in the rural areas.

Alhaji Aremu, noted that the high level of crime rate in the country was due to the over crowded cities, pointing out that, the provision of modest amenities in the rural areas would go a long way in stemming the current unemployment tide and crime rate.
