Maiden JAMB Football Tourney Kicks Off in Ilorin

THE first JAMB Tertiary Institutions Football Competition begins today in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The competition is taking place at Kwara Football Academy Field and University of Ilorin stadium.

Declaring the Competition open, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali thanked JAMB for organizing the sporting event and for making Kwara state the host.

Professor Ambali, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Professor Sidikat Ijaiya said the competition would help to cement relationship among students of tertiary institutions in the country.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Bolakale Ayo explained that the competition would serve as a springboard to discover talents and assist students, who would develop career in sports.

Alhaji Ayo charged students of the participating institutions to use the event as a platform to build friendships.

In the matches played today, Delta State University walloped Kogi State College of Education, Anka four goals to two while Umar Shinkafi College of Education, Sokoto defeated Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin by a lone goal.

The match between the University of Agriculture, Markudi and Kaduna Polytechnic ended one-all draw while Federal Polytechnic, Offa defeated University of Ilorin by a lone goal.
