The contractor in charge of the ongoing construction of 32km Ilesha-Baruba-Gwanara road in Baruten local government of Kwara State, has guaranteed that the project would be completed on schedule.
The contractor, Hassan Diap of Duravil Engineering Limited said this on Saturday when the State commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya inspected the project.
Diap said that his company was doing everything possible to ensure that the project is completed on time, adding that they suspended their usual rainy season leave as part of efforts to achieve this.
He disclosed that 16km of the road has been cleared and that surface dressing of 8.5km has been done. He added that they are also constructing drainage and culvert to protect the road.
The contractor promised to accelerate the pace of work once the rainy season is over, noting that rains have been a major challenge to them.
Speaking with newsmen after the inspection, Alhaji Aro Yahaya reiterated the State government’s commitment to the timely completion of the road project, and assured that the project will not be abandoned.
“We assure the people of Ilesha-Baruba and Gwanara that this project will not be abandoned, as it has been captured under the Kwara Infrastructure Development Fund, IF-K module,” he added.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government will next month release additional funds to the contractor in charge of the project and other contractors handling various projects across the State.
He explained that when completed, the Ilesha-Baruba/Gwanara road would promote inter-state economic activities and facilitate trade between traders in Nigeria and their counterparts in Benin Republic and Togo.
The Commissioner later visited the site of the ongoing construction of the Kwara State University, KWASU College of Agriculture in Ilesha-Baruba to check the progress of work.
