Members of the electoral officers sent to Kwara State by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were allegedly responsible for the botched governorship primary initially scheduled to hold today, has learnt.
It was gathered that although the national officers were expected to arrive Kwara early yesterday to make necessary arrangement and preparations for the exercise, they were yet to be sighted in the state according to checks by this medium.
The reason for their delay could however not be ascertained.
According to a top party executive, “the national officers unfortunately could not arrive the state on time to accommodate the preparations and logistics that would have made today’s exercise smooth.
“When they are on ground, they would have to hold meetings and plan ahead on how the exercise will be successful. But this was not to be. Late evening yesterday, they were still being expected from Abuja and we don’t know why.
“The state leadership of the party however met with the gubernatorial aspirants today (Wednesday) to iron out few areas of concerns.
“So with the look of things this night, the gubernatorial primary may be shifted to Friday and we have already prepared the minds of the aspirants towards this,” he added.
Also, one of the elders of the party, Alhaji LAK Jimoh said that the executives were yet to get back to them after the meeting.
When contacted for clarification around 7pm, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Kayode Oyin Zubair, told this medium that he cannot make any remark concerning whether the governorship primary will hold on Thursday.
He promised to get back to this reporter between 10-11pm but his mobile line failed to connect when this reporter tried to reach him.
Uncertainty had trailed the conduct of the exercise last night following conflicting reports from some party leaders and gubernatorial aspirants many of whom expressed divergent positions about the issue.
