Nestlé Nigeria, overall champions of the just-concluded Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Games were on Wednesday presented with the Games’ trophy and a plaque in Lagos by the organisers, Media Vision Ltd.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is the first time Nestlé Nigeria has emerged as both Football and Overall Champions of the Nigeria FMCG Games which ended after five weeks at Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex Oct. 6.
NAN also reports that excitement was palpable as the champions were celebrated and decorated with medals by both the company and the Games’ organisers.
The Chief Operating Officer of Media Vision Ltd., Jimmy Sogbesan, said that Nestlé’s dominance at the Nigeria FMCG Games reached new heights as the team hauled in 9 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals, inclusive of the football gold.
“FMCG Games is an opportunity to drive employee engagement and team building. I would like to commend your team for their conduct on and off the pitch,’’ he said.
Also, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé’s Nigeria, Mauricio Alarcón, commended his team for making the company proud.
“We are very proud of what you have achieved as a team. You showed excellent form and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the game.
“I congratulate every member of the team who was on the field and everyone who cheered us on to victory.
“As a health and wellness company with a purpose to enhance quality of life and contribute to a healthier future for individuals and families, we will continue to support participation in sports which not only build the body, but also promote the learning of key life skills, including team spirit, stamina and discipline,’’ Alarcón said.
The Nigeria FMCG Games is a platform that brings employees together to compete, have fun, bond and network in a sportive and friendly atmosphere.
This year saw some of Nigeria’s biggest FMCG companies competing against each other for a chance to be crowned champions of their sector.
The companies that featured in the Games are Unilever Plc., Friesland Campina WAMCO, Guinness Nigeria, Reckitt Benckiser and Nestlé Nigeria.
Nestlé emerged victorious not only in football but also in athletics, scrabble, table tennis and chess, dominating in the FMCG 2018 Games.
