Court remands 3 over alleged culpable homicide in Kwara

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded three suspects, Aliyu Hassan, Abdullahi Hassan and Saad Tanko accused of killing of one Mohammed Umar.

The Magistrate, Jumoke Bello, ordered that the accused persons be remanded at Okekura Prison Yard, Ilorin., till Feb.4, when the case would come up for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Roda Kayode told the court that the accused persons conspired and hacked the hands and throat of the victim, who died on Dec. 19, 2018.

He said the accused persons carried out the act in a bush close to their house at Sabon Gida in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara.

The prosecutor said the trio were in court on a two-count charge of Criminal Conspiracy and Culpable homicide, contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody to enable the police conclude investigation.

The magistrate granted the prosecution’s request and ordered that the accused persons be remanded for further mention of the case.
