US Congratulates PMB, Calls For Peaceful Gubernatorial Polls

The United States of America (USA) has congratulated the people of Nigeria and President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election in the just concluded presidential and the national assembly elections. US also called on Nigerians to conduct themselves peacefully in the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial, State House of Assembly and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils elections In a statement issued by the public affairs department of the US Embassy in Abuja, the government commended all those who participated peacefully in the election and condemned those whose acts of violence harmed Nigerians and the electoral process. “We note the assessments of international and domestic observer missions affirming the overall credibility of the election, despite localized violence and irregularities.” “We also congratulate all the other candidates for their peaceful participation in the electoral process. We call on all Nigerians to ensure successful state elections next week,” the statement said. According to the statement, “going forward, the United States remains committed to working together with Nigeria to achieve greater peace and prosperity for both our nations.”
