Vacate the river banks, Etsu Patigi tells subjects

The Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II has called on the residents living in riverine communities to take precautions by living the River Banks to the uplands to safe lives and property.

Alhaji Umar made the call when he received the Kwara State Government High Powered delegation, led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Isiaka Al-Amin to Patigi Local Government on sensitisation against possible flooding in the state.

The Etsu emphasised that the overflow of River Niger occurs every year which threatened the lives and property of the people.

He said already the Emirate had begun sensitisation of the residents in order to prioritize their safety above their means of livelihood and avert disaster.

Alhaji Umar thanked the Governor for being proactive in sending the delegation and promised that the Emirate Council work with the government in protecting the lives and property.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alh. Isiaka Al-Amin explained that the Governor sent the delegation to sensitise residents of the area on the danger associated with flooding as a result of the recent flood predictions by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

He said the predicted rise in water level higher than that of two thousand and eight and twenty twelve could worsen economic life of the people or claim lives if precautions were not taken by residents of flood prone areas.

“It has been predicted by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency that the flood magnitude may be severe compared with what was experienced in the year 2012,” the Permanent Secretary disclosed.

He said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was taking proactive measures to guarantee the survival of the citizenry and their farmlands.

Alhaji Al-Amin who also led the delegation to Gbaradogi community where farmlands had been submerged called on authorities of Patigi Local Government to liaise with the state government on the state of the resettlement centre in Patigi for intervention.

The Spokesman to Gbaradogi community, Mallam Muhammad Al-Hassan appealed to the state government to make the resettlement centre habitable.
